Sweet Easter Bunnies, Batman: Legends of the Dark Mite has to be the most fourth-wall breaking show in the history of ever. Dear lord. This show's gone from campy, classic entertainment to full out 'FUCK YEAR'
Busy, busy weekend it was! Saturday and Sunday were filled with small things that took up the day. Saturday was just a simple lunch with my dad and sister, but also involved getting my old glass case, which I had passed onto Tom, back from the boy and into my apt. I now have space for more of my toys. But not all of them, so I need still more space. I'll always need space. I need to stop buying things.
Sunday I went with Stephris to a reception area for their wedding next year, way out in the boonies past where I used to grow up. It's a lovely place with flowers and trees and hills and stuff. I have to admit that country settings never really grab my fancy, as when you see one you see them all and I spent most of the summers of my youth at those places. But afterwards we had lunch with Tori, at Tori's work no less where she served us the lunch, and then I left right afterwards to have dinner with my gran. I was quite full by the end of it.
And then Monday it was off to Montreal and La Ronde for Steph's birthday. Rollercoasters and fast rides are sorely not my thing, and luckily not Tori's either so I had someone to sit out with, but there was still plenty of fun to be had without scaring the pants off of me. We spent the whole day there and karaoke'd the way back to pass the time and keep us all awake. I may have missed some work, but in the end it didn't really matter because the setup is so far behind I actually have very little to work on. :(
And there was an explosion in Toronto Sunday/Monday at 4am, that I heard nothing about until I glanced at the bus paper on the way to work today. Luckily, while the property damage was big the death toll is tiny. I can't imagine why a propane depot was allowed to be anywhere near residence areas though. And watching the various videos on YouTube, you get an eerie sense of Cloverfield. Had I been there I'd probably be going on about the crab/spider om-nom beasties.
Also, there's a new Batman Arkham game announced andoh my gooooooooood I'm so happy about this. I may have made little squeal noises when I first found out. Creepy neat like Bioshock but it's all detective stuff a and puzzles and it's written by motherfucking Dini? Now I have something to look forward to next year besides Watchmen.

Dearest fellow Batman fans,
Mark Hamil is the shit. I know it, you know it, we can all agree on it. A small few of you might disagree on this. That's okay, this rant is not for you.
I'll say it again, just so we can all be clear where I stand, Mark Hamil is the shit. He's super mega awesome, the coolest guy around, I wish he were my dad, etc. I love him just as much as you do for the work he did on The Animated Series, bringing our favorite homicidal clown to life. His voice is creepy and funny at the same time, his laugh is maniacal and he pulls off those lines perfectly. He even inspired a good deal of the acting, often standing and emoting while reading his lines, giving that extra bit for the animators to work with, really helping with the on screen portrayal. B:TAS was awesome, and Hamil helped make it awesomer.
I'd be lying if I didn't admit that whenever I read the comics, I hear Hamil's voice. Like many of you born in the 80's, I grew up with Hamil as first impression of Joker. And I love it.
But for the love of Peaches and Cream, he's not the only Joker voice around. He may be the best so far, withholding comparison of Heath Joker as there hasn't been enough evidence,(from what we've heard, Heath's pretty good at it so far - strains a little but it's a voice over and with less context it's hard to tell) but that doesn't mean he has to be the end all be all voice of the Joker, requiring you to insist on imitating him (often poorly), dubbing over with his voice or claiming he can beat up my dad. There's a million ways to sound creepy without trying to warp your voicechords into unnatural pitches, resulting in you sounding like a douche undergoing raw foot surgery. I'm sure if you looked deep down you could find a more easily imitable Joker voice. Hell, that guy's voice/laugh from the new Amusement movie is pretty fucking creepy. Copy that.
Give Joker a deep voice. Give him a British accent. Make him whisper his lines. Make him yell. For fucks sake, experiment with it. He doesn't have a canonical voice because guess what? It's comics. There is no such thing as canon in comics. Because I don't care how good your video/short/radio play is, if I hear one more strained Hamil imitation, I will turn it off, find you and kick you repeatedly in the jewels until you talk like Harley for the rest of your stinkin' life. Are we clear?
Sincerely,
Ama.
PS. Also, stop bitching about the new The Batman cartoon. It may be ugly, but it's well written ugly and most of the episodes (after Batgirl was introduced) are a joy to watch. And some of the designs, like Ivy*, are kinda neat looking despite the awful style.
*Except they made Ivy 15, but are trying to keep the Harley/Ivy dynamic, what the ever loving fuck.

Yesterday I meant to post my gleefull love of Amazon, but I was so much enjoying my love of Amazon that I forgot to post it. But why do I love Amazon? Because of so:
On Boxing day, I'm online talking with some friends and one of them brings up the newest Absolute Edition Batman Trade (I know, I know) for The Long Halloween, the story that influenced Nolan for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. He points me to Amazon, where it's currently half off - I get to pay 50 bucks instead of 100, which is swell. And since I'm such a sucker for awesome collectors editions, and I have Christmas money I was planning on spending on Batman stuff anyway, I buy it.
Congratulations! says Amazon, But remember, it'd Fucking Boxing Day, so you probably won't get this until February! (Note: Amazon's messages may be paraphrased. Or not.)
February? But that's such a long time off. Still, it's worth it for paying that cheap a price. Plus, I'll have forgotten all about it, so once it comes in in February it'll be like a surprise present!
Then shortly after I get home I get an email on the 31st: Wowie! Amazon gushes, We're fucking ninjas and guess what? You're stuff's shipping out! Expect it in on the 7th.
Oh gosh and golly, now I'm excited. Only a week for something I though would take over a month? I swell with such nerdy happiness.
Then yesterday, the third, there's a knock-knocking on the door. I wonder, who the fuck? I'm in my pyjamas (at ten am no less) and it can't be an inspection, so are the supers coming to visit? Or is it perhapes my annoying crazy neighbour, lonely and come over to regal tales of her kitties and their fantastic voyages?
Thank god for peepholes. I look out and see not a superintendent or middle-age hippie, but a woman in postal clothes with a cart of boxes. I throw open the door. 'I'm AMA and that big one's for ME.' I get the box and return to my couch, opening it has happy as a kid on Christmas. Inside is my Absolute Edition and the joy of the week.
Does Amazon over-estimate, so that they always seem early? WHO CARES. I got my book a month early! I love you Amazon! Even if you do recommend killing yourself!

I have seen it and it is glorious.
Went to the I Am Legend IMAX showing at 9:30. It quickly filled up, but we got there near an hour early, so it wasn't too bad. Managed to pass the time by talking with a friend about the marketing for the movie and he waxed poetical about the trailer which I still haven't seen yet! I am patiently, oh so patiently, waiting for the full, HD version to come online so I can enjoy it to it's fullest. Then the IMAX show starts and trailers begin.
First they play Spiderwick Chronicles. I get a little worried, and confused, since I don't think there's anyone under 20 here and why the hell would there be.
Then another trailer starts (I honestly can't remember what for) and I get nervous. What the hell, is this a repeat of Simpsons Movie where I go in excpecting Batawesome and get disappointment?
BUT NO. After the second trailer a blue smoke fills the screen. Logos WB, Legendary Pictures and then DC Comics. I make little squeaky noises.
Now, before anything else, HOT DAMN. I have only seen two IMAX movies previous to this. 300 in March and an ancient Egyptian documentary way back in 1998. YES THAT LONG. And while I remember the Egypt one being stellar, as it was clearly shot for IMAX, 300 was essentially just shown on a big screen. But these first six minutes were shot FOR IMAX and the opening shot is GLORIOUS. I Am Legend seemed so grainy afterwards.
I'm not going to spoil the prologue, not even under a cut. It's not something I can just tell, it's something I wanna discuss. Joker's in it very little, but his mind is all over the place and that makes it great. Acording to my friend Joel the trailer is much better because they show all these different scenes of Joker all over the place and freaky as hell, but I really liked the prologue for Joker being smart. I don't want a laughing maniac, give me a chuckling genius any day.
And Heath PLAYS it, let me tell you. That one last shred of doubt I had? GONE.
And on the subject of I Am Legend: holy movie promises, WB. Within the first few scenes I saw a giant poster for Legally Blonde The Musical and giggled. Then I started seeing posters for movies that ain't out yet or haven't been offically announced, even though they're to come out in 2009. Wonder Woman was one, though the woman's face was obscurred all the time. There was also Green Lantern. A Teen Titans (live action) poster that was colourful beyond belief. A Fred Claus 2. Yes. But the worst of the worst was one scene on the street that widened into a longer shot and big, bold and beautiful was a gigantic poster for SUPERMAN/BATMAN. The giant Batsymbol with the Superman 'S' in the center. I little choked on the water I was unfortunatly drinking at the time and went 'THE FUCK?'
Please, please, please for all that is holy, don't let that be a promise. Ever. Unless it's Superman VS Batman and Bats wins. Actually, don't even do that. If that is our future, I look forward to the sweet, sweet incoming death.
I Am Legend wasn't bad, by the. Much less jump scenes than I thought and Will Smith carries the movie pretty well by himself. Some of the camera work was awful, though, and they changed the ending. But otherwise I give it a 7.
The prologue was better though.
I don't know if I can wait for the trailer, though
ETA: Forgot to add the final highlight of the night. As we left the theatre, just near the parking lot a teenage girl had a box of balls, the kind from ball pits. And she was, rather poorly, throwing them from the box all over the place. We actually stopped and started at her it was so bizarre. She wasn't laughing enough to be drunk/high and she wasn't angry (or old) enough to be punishing a kid. In fact, she was pretty expressionless. After she emptied the box, she threw that too and then walked back into the theater. I grabbed a ball for the memories.

Oh my gooooooood.
So I get home and check my email and notice I have a new 'reply' from one of the TDK Joker viral sites, where you submit 'tips' for corrupt cops. Guessing that this is the next step in the online game, I click on it and no sooner than I do that the phone starts ringing. Thinking it's one of the few remaining friends wanting to chill, I jump over to it and instead note that the number's 1-000-000. My first thought it 'what the fecking hell' and then my second thought remembers the email I just clicked and I happily answered.
A Gotham cop/mobster/whoever proceeds to threaten me and verbally lay the smack down in a delightful Brooklyn accent, warning me if I ever squeal again. Then he gives the next clue, document LC6551, and hangs up and I freak out with happiness and head over to the boards and then go crazy because MY INTERNET IS BEING SO SLOW RIGHT NOW WHAT THE HELL.
It's great timing to me being bored. There may be little social interaction right now, but I've got an online game that is WAY more fun than The Lost Experiance.
Man, I can't wait until the future when every big budget blockbuster does this.

Far into the future, when I'm on my death bed and looking back at my life, I don't except to have many regrets. I live life as a it comes to me and make small decisions with little thought and bigger ones with coin flips. I will be happy with almost all of the choices I have made throughout my life.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Well, work is over. Done. Finito. The contracts up and quite technically I could be sitting around and spitting on my thumbs should I feel like it. However, with my attention span this would result in about three minutes of entertainment, and then infinite boredom.
Luckily, there's some freelance stuff to do. I'm working on some extra symbol animation and the memories are coming back as quickly as the hours pass. And after what felt like ten minutes of leaning over the keyboard in a slightly uncomfortable pose to try and figure out a problem, I realize it's been an hour and a half and now my back really goddamn hurts. I'm a little stressed on getting the work done too, though I shouldn't be. It's just some extra stuff to make some extra money. For presents!
Speaking of which, it's the birthday tomorrow. There will be cake. And barbeque, providing the weather holds out. And since Trevor and Morgan and Nathanial are leaving the coming weekend, it'll be a nice little 'byebye' party as well, since Wednesday will be a hellotta work and Thursday/Friday I'm goina to Maine!
Hey, I'm now legal in the states, why not? ;) Also it's the Black Friday and I think would be interesting tototally take advantage of America's falling economy and deranged consumer habits see what it's like and maybe pick up some fun, cheap shit. Amirite?
Anyways, do have cleaning to do as guests will be coming over tomorrow.

Whysoserious.com has UPDATED. Now there is a juicy litle pumpkin, just in time for Halloween. I wonder what surprises await?
Quite possibly the exciting news that there's going to be a motherfucking 7-min prequel playing in IMAX in December? I have to say, ever since the IBelieveInHarveyDentToo.com reveal, I and the world have been certain of a connection to the only big WB movie in Dec, I Am Legend. But the first trailer was really all we were expecting. But a seven-minute stand-alone prequel focusing on the Joker and playing in IMAX is above and beyond any expectation. So HOLY MUTHERFUCKING WOAH. I'm going to pee myself when that happens.
Also, it's been pointed out that the pumpking on whysoserious.com is carved directly like the pumpkin from the Batman GN The Long Halloween. Whoever is doing the marketing on this movie should do the marketing on every movie, because they know their fucking goddamn stuff. By this point, even if TDK isn't good, the marketing will make it worth it.
Also, I got my new sofa in! Huzzah! It marked up the floor a bit getting it set up, but now I have something soft, cushy and awesome to sit on that doesn't dig metal bars into my ass after ten minutes. Playing Halo will now be much more enjoyable.
And so, to continute cleaning! Guests tomorrow!

I've spent almost my entire evening all over them. Also got in Runaways and Buffy (OH MY GOD) and Fables, all which I haven't read yet, except for Buffy (AWESOME)
Yeah, Buffy rocks so far, and I'm happy with how it's turning. I did go 'LOLWHAT' at one bit, but otherwise it's an awesome plot and Joss rocks and next up is BKV doing Faith.
GLEE
Then I also picke dup Batman #666, which is in the future with Bat's demon-spawn Damien as the new Batman and it's odd but incredibly enjoyable. Oh DC.

'Hush', the music from the Buffy episode of the same name, is in my iTunes and has been playing for the last minute or so - that's the creepiest fucking music when it's dark, I'm alone and I just read a bunch of stuff on Joker. D:

Today at Comic-con, Warner Bros. washolding their panel, showcasing movies such as Invasion and Watchmen. But while hundreds of fans, bloggers and reporters waited and listened to the news, something exciting, and sinister, was happening outside.
During this week American 1-dollar bills were left on the streets of San Diego (and perhapes elsewhere), with Washington defaced and 'whysoserious' scribbled on them. Of course, fans entered it as a URL and came up with a website with a defaced Uncle Same poster and a countdown, waiting until 10am PDT today.
Once the timer hit zero, the game began. Instructions for those online and for those on the ground popped up, and with each deciephered clue we got closer... to something.
Since I didn't have any corespondent in San Diego, I played along with members of the aintitcoolnews forums, until the servers were lagging so much and my work computer was so slow that I just gave up and read along.
You can read the whole journey here.
(Also, you can call the number 800-395-9646, which isn't on the movie snobs site. It's creepy and awesome)
Once everything was said and done, the website finalyl uploaded to this, informing of the plot - to make Gotham Police believe Joker's dead and once again telling us we'll see him in December. There's also a link just visible in the page, leading to the (very slowly working due to server lag) official teaser, where we get to hear Joker for the first time.
(Something a few are unhappy with, but I'm very pleased about - The Simpsons Movie, while entertaining, did not have the Batman teaser and I just about punched the girl sitting in front of my with my flailing fists of rage)
So cool? Awesome? Inspiring? HELL YES. I'm almost inclined to believe that the reason this went down was due to 1-18-08 - when IBelieveInHarveyDentToo.com came out, everyone was flipping their shit over Batman. Then the unnamed trailer in front of Transformers through everyone into a tizzy and saying 'Joker who?'
And with the official poster of 1-18-08 revealed at the con, WB obviously wanted to bring a little bit of that spotlight back. And they didn't just jump up and down and wave - they shot the guy holding the light and sent one of their guys up there to control it back to them.
Sweet buttery pancakes in a thick syrup sauce with awesomeberries ontop. If the movie is anything as good as the marketing, we're in for the best fucking goddamned Batman thing ever. I'm looking forward to Decemeber and Xmas isn't even on my mind as the reason. And with 1-18-08 and Batman going for Fucking Wicked Sickhouse viral status, this is going to be one brilliant fall of anticipation.

Oooooomigod I need some more DH icons. The wank has been few and far between, but the book was awesome and I totally need a good 'NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH' one, just because Best. Scene. EVER.
I've been doing a crapload of doodles and stuff too - will and should scan those in soon.
BUT MORE IMPORTANT all signs point to Dark Knight Teaser being shown before Simpsons. Good news, y/y? I just, JUST may go and seen Simpsons movie, and once the trailers are done, most def if there's no TDK teaser, leave, say I'm feeeling all illish and get my money back. It'd better be there though! I wants my Batman!
I also watch Batman Returns on Sun and holy crap I forgot how weird that movie is. Especially with the rewatching of BTAS the Penquin I'm used to is a bird-loving nut/mob boss. Obessed with popularity and high society and acts more pompous than he could ever be, and then the movie shows Danny DeVito the mutant who bites off a guy's nose. Different take, and I fully support different opinion/interpertation on comic charaters (as I feel comic chars are more ideas and less solid creations - Batman is bent on destroying crime, protecting his city, hates guns, uses the shadows, is dedicated and his parents are dead - but otherwise he can be a midget, a woman, 4000 years in the future, a cowboy, whatever. That's why the Elseworlds work.) but weiiiiiird.

J.J. Abrahms film is Monsterous Fake? I'll guess so, but Comic-Con IS this week where we're supposed to get some new info. Maybe this teaser poster is one bit of that preview and just got leaked into public view early by dipwads or whatnot. Also, I doubt 'Monsterous' is the title - many teaser posters don't have the actual title on them.
Behind the scenes footage of 01-18-08 Doesn't really look like much, really, but still cool to see.
ReBOOT remade I was all *flails* until I saw the production art. Old school is good school, plxkthnx. Also, they hired fans as writers - this is either very gutsy or very, very dumb.
Remake of Escape to Witch Mountain NO. NO. WAIT UNTIL THOSE OF US WHO WERE KIDS HAVE GRANDKIDS.
Family Guy movie possible. ALSO NO.

My plan is to absorb as many spoilers as possible, because 90% of them will be made the fuck up, and 10% will be true, with 9.99% being coincidentally correct and .01% being trufax. And by the time I'm reading the book I'll have forgotten half, and the latter 10% will hopefully be mixed in with that forgotten. It's also fun to speculate and hope on deaths!

I've been watching Batman:TAS lately, and ohmyshit how times have changed. This was a mere 15 years ago, but in a show intended pretty much for children, they had very from abusive relationships, to sex jokes, to machine guns to issues slightly above a 7-year-olds head, like feminism and politics.
I think that that's really what makes the show so awesome. It's still the cool and somewhat mysterious Batman to the kids, but to the Batfans it's the something incredibly cool.
Why can't TV go back to that? Why this silly pampering kids of everything? I mean, the only cartoon I've recently seen that's as adult as it is childish is Spongebob Squarepants of all things. If that show used any more euphamisms and innuendo, I think a paradox would open.
Oh, how I hope for a coming cartoon renaissance where we treat it like a medium and stop patting kids on the head and saying 'when you're older'.

DIE HARD IS AWWWWSOOOOOMMME. It is a great movie of unrealistic action and explosions amd Bruce Willis. His expressions are what made that movie different from any other movie with big bangs. There's one bit where he was all 'Aaaw nooooooo' and I laughed until tears, my friends. Beauty, right there.
And tomorrow is Ratatouille and glorious brilliance there.
I've picked up a PS2 game today called 'Batman: Vengance'. It is basically a game of Batman: TAS, which is sex. It's all the same voice actors too from the cartoon. I've been watching Justice League and TAS lately, so I was a big kick and when I saw it for 10 bucks I just had to grab.
The animation is horrible, lemme tell you. Just low-budgetly awful. But the dialogue and story make up for it, so I can ignore the Godzilla-esque lipsyncing and just enjoy an awesome Batman game meant for 7-yr-olds.
TAS is always, and forever, going to be my Batman cannon. Same with Justice League. It's like Bruce Timm was created to make Batman awesome. I mean, the irony of his name is just the first hint. There was one episdoe of JLU I saw today where Batman was possesed by a ghost (a character called Deadman who I'd never heard of until today) who used Batman's body to grab a gun and shoot a bad guy. And Batman was so pissed and I loved it.
I think, really, why the cartoons are so well written and so brilliant is because they're not trying so hard. Comic nerds these days want the whole soap opera shit, uber realism and human emotion and politics and all this real world drama crap in their comics today. We don't need that! We're reading picture books about grown men and women in rediculous outfits, with rediculous names, fighting equally rediculous villians. Now it's soap operas, with weddings and surprise children and political wars and his identicle cousin's long lost wife's sister in law who's a witch. Seriously.
This is turning into a long rant. I'm going to stop here.

OH MAN, I spent nearly all of today catching up on season 3 of Doctor Who. Amazing! I'm on Ep 9 right now, just about to start, but I'd figure I'd blog for a bit first before heading back into it. Can't wait to get all caught up before the season finale. :D Sounds like it's going to be exciiiiting.
Thank all ye gods for TVlinks.co.uk. Now that my torrents don't work anymore I can't download movies or TV seasons - I'v resorted to ripping rentals (though I've rapidly increased my selection via that way) and watching the shows via streaming media. Once I'm done with the Doctor I'll finish up Torchwood and then head on to Veronica Mars s3.
Any other good sci-fi shows I can catch up on once I'm done? Or shows (or even movies) period? I spend a ton of time on the comp, so having alittle entertainment on the side while I work is totally awesome.
Also, Bridge to Terabithia and Gray Matters come out tomorrow! I'll have to rent them out and and see if they're any good. If BtT makes me cry, then it's good. That's still one of the most memorably books of my childhood.

So I've figgered the problem with my torrents: my providor is a division of another providor who's currently shutting down as much P2P downlaod as possible to stop the very things I'm trying to acheive. Fuckers. I want my software and missed tv shows!
It's a Friday night and I'm sitting at home in pj bottoms and a crappy T. I should be out on the town - some friends called and asked if I wanted to and everything - but it's cold and a bit rainy out there and frankly my place is a mess and I'm just cleaning away tonight. HUZZAH. There's dusting to be done, sweeeping, my computer desk is rediculously clutered and I have some drawing inklings. I'm also working on the thoughts of paint colour schemes and how to rearange the apt. I needs a beeeeeed.
Besides, tomorrow is Game 3 and we're all going to a bar and should there be winning there'll be much more drinking. Heres hoping for the win!
Also, my work is awesome: I get to paint the wall in front of my desk because it's blank and we animators don't like blank walls. I got to choose what I want and the boss'll pay for the paints. What am I doing? Gotham cityscape with the batsignal in the sky. I AM SUCH A NERD. Also, I have the idea to do a Hellboy themed kitchen. It fits!

A very huge drama is shaking the foundations of LJ fandom right now. Journals being deleted, fics vanishing and general worry all around. If you haven't heard allrady, there's a decent amount of information on Journalfen here. There's also here, here and here. While I am not so very involved in fandom, I dip into it enough to be all shook and worried for those who are affectd.

I've been sleeping odd lately and feeling a bit drained of energy lately, but I'm sure once I get paid and get a ton of delish food that'll turn around. They're advirtising BBQs every. WANT. But that'll have to wait until next paycheque. :< Then when I finished my scene and went up to find another there were only two left and one was deliberatly untouched because it was 'crazy'. Didn't seem too crazy - just the character jumping - so I took it. Only problem was that it was due in 3 hours. o.O That was fun and entertaining.
