I know I have very few comic readers on the flist, but as I'm getting more and more into them, I'm going to try and convert you, goddammit. And the highest recomendation would have to go to Batgirl: Year One. It's stelleriffic and just fucking awesome. It's fun to read and Babs is just one of the better characters to come out of DC and I'm not biased or nothing. She's just that cool. You don't need to know anything about Batman other than what the general public knows (he is the knight and his parents are dead).
Seriously. Batgirl. Go read it. Awesome.
Otherwise, there's about six billion pictures of that doe patronus popping up everywhere. Jesus shit.
ETA: I would've posted it yesterday, but the blackout caused me to seek entertainment of the computer and not update, but they're currently filming something just down from my studio and Michelle Trachtenberg (spelled right first time!) is in it. It's rather surreal.

Voxdate: The need to breed and problem with Pride
I've been watching Batman:TAS lately, and ohmyshit how times have changed. This was a mere 15 years ago, but in a show intended pretty much for children, they had very from abusive relationships, to sex jokes, to machine guns to issues slightly above a 7-year-olds head, like feminism and politics.
I think that that's really what makes the show so awesome. It's still the cool and somewhat mysterious Batman to the kids, but to the Batfans it's the something incredibly cool.
Why can't TV go back to that? Why this silly pampering kids of everything? I mean, the only cartoon I've recently seen that's as adult as it is childish is Spongebob Squarepants of all things. If that show used any more euphamisms and innuendo, I think a paradox would open.
Oh, how I hope for a coming cartoon renaissance where we treat it like a medium and stop patting kids on the head and saying 'when you're older'.

Edited for LJcut after I realized how long this entry was.

So how'd the 07/07/07 treat everyone? I've come down with a slight case of the sick, hence the absence of posting/linkspaming. But I'm back and ready to powerdrive into the future!
I have no idea what I mean by that.
I'm sure everyone's seen/heard of the Cloverfield awesomeness by now. It's hard to link to a trailer, as Paramount keeps pulling them down. In any case, I've been watching online as all this shit's unfolding and it looks like QUITE the ARG is developing from this! I'm currently putting together a post containing all the Cloverfield info so far, and into the future.
It's gonna be AWESOME.
Movie News
Will Smith as John Hancock I'm not really sure what the point's supposed to be - superhero living a normal life? Either way, that outfit's horrid.
Prince Caspian preview at Comic-Con I want this movie to be gone so that Dawn Treader can be awesome and right now. I think PC was my second least favorite of Narnia. It was just so boring.
Iron Man update Iron Man director Jon Favreau has posted an update on his MySpace page talking about Comic-Con, the story and possible cameos.
WTF of the day
Bugchasers I know Bugchasers have been old since the 80's, but reading that thread was D: The fuck is wrong with these bastards?

Man disguised as tree robs bank How do you MISS THAT. What's up with the security there?
First Wii Ware announced They'd better come out with the storage solution for the Wii soon - once this Wiiware hits I'm going to run out of space!
100,000 trees need to be planted to offset Live Earth. Well no duh - just watching it last night we could tell it was a very green thang.
Running of the bulls begin in Spain Only 1 minor goreing and 1 shoulder injury. Hurray for fun and games!
Japanese Smoking Manners These are amazingly lulz.
TV Shows that put the 'cult' in 'cult classic' "...a universe of fiction for those fans totally devoid of social life..." has to be my favorite quote about fandom ever right now.
Gust finds host's wife, step-son bodies in freezer ... DELICIOUS
ETA: Just found this: Lesbian gangs are a raping/beating/pink-pistol toting menace I'm torn between WTF and OMG LOL. People honestly believe this shit? 'Lawless gay people'? What, we're exempt or something and that makes us so awful? THE FUCK.

OH MAN.
Walking home from watching Transformers is surreal. I was passing cars, trucks, scooters, motorbikes, even looking at my own cell phone was just a 'there's a robot inside you yes maybe?' and then trying to figure out the amazing transformation that could happen and just what it's corny name could be. I think I would name my cellphone somthing small and fitting, like Widget or Ringer. Unless it was a Decepticon. Then it'd be something like Deaftone or Terrorpad or Smashface.
Seriously. Go see Transformers. The reviews say it's good and I went in with the expectations of good. It's a lie. It's AWESOME. I'm not a fan of Transformers in particular (in fact, being a former comic clerk, I have a private vendetta against Transformers fans, who are the most anal retentive, detail obsessed, nitpicky little bugers I've ever been surprised to know got laid.) But I am an animator, friend of computer animators and daughter of a car nut. And this movie is so spectacular of all accounts. The theatre was, obviously, packed with all kinds of Transformers fans and their girlfriends. I don't think anyone there was younger than 20 and older than 30. It was clearly the entire demographic that had grown up with the show and they all loved it. References, little trivia and the introduction of each robot was met with cheers and applause. Not to mention it was pretty well written dialogue, with good cinematic timing.
It was a 'triumph of the American spirit' sort of movie, which I went in expecting. The kid was pretty much that scrappy little bugger who personifies the spirit, but his acting was better than I was expecting. There was some unrealistic plot devices, and some unneeded scenes, but overall it was giant robots transforming and fighting and the movie certainly entertained.
The best movie of the summer. If Dark Knight is as good as this one, I will die happy right in my seat.
And if you need one more bit of convincing. There is a trailer in front of Transformers for a movie that has no name, no synopsis, no information whatsoever available.
You need to see it.
