So Saturday was Free Comic Book day. I headed down to the church where the local store had set up to see what I could grab. I went at noon and clearly waited too long, since the piles were tiny once I got there. Managed to grab a small haul and then found out Darwyn Cooke was there, with a bunch of other local artists, and they were doing free sketches for everyone. The line was a half-hour wait, but as I had nowhere else to go, it was worth the little Batman sketch I got. Cooke, who had done some work on The Spirit comics, was complaining about the new trailer for the Frank Miller 'adaptation', clearly sharing the opinion of the rest of us: Shit sucks, and it's just Sin City 2. And that apparently, half of the room at NYCC walked out on the trailer when they showed it. Mon dieux.
Since the comic store was having a sale, I checked it out. I still feel guilty loyal to the CBS back in Otown, so I don't like buying anything here that I could get there, so I pretty much stuck to the art books. Grabbed the History of PIXAR, which is a great read. Set me back 75 bones though, so huzzah for credit cards, but I don't regret it at all. PIXAR's as old as me, something I didn't know before. Weird.

Iron Man. Awesome. I loved every minute of that film, though it did give me an unforgivable craving for cheeseburgers. There's really nothing more I can say that you probably haven't been bombarded with the past weekend, but I definitely rank that the second best comic film made. First being TDK, of course.
HAVE YOU SEEN THAT TRAILER? SDKFJASDOGADIFGHADFIS YES YES YESYESYESYES

Oh Halifax. Only you can go from +5 sunny skies to chilling winds and pouring rain to Silent Hill fogs to light and fluffy snowflakes in cheery sun in the space of 48 hours. What will the weather be tomorrow? Perhaps all of it in one day? I wonder!
Also, today is apparently Good Friday and thus it's the Easter weekend and WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE YE GODS. Still no news of work on the horizon. Still nothing to do. Slowly going craaaaaazy.
While my time on LJ has been lowered, mostly because I have no particular fandom right now and LJ's a fairly fandom place (though I hear of the new Who date! Exciting!) I've gravitated to other forums and at some point ended up at 4chan. That's right, I chill at the chan now. Thought, admitedly, I only hang out on two boards: /ck/ and /co/, cooking and comics/cartoons respectively. If you're familar at all with 4chan and their infamous douchbaggery, that's pretty much all /b/, the board the rest of 4chan actively hates. /co/'s arguably the friendliest board, where topics of things such as Avatar can derail into advice threads, and there's a number of girls hanging out because no one cares. Of course, there's creeps and questionable threads, but it IS 4chan.
But I mostly like it because of the drawfaggotry threads - there's usually one once a week with a different topic (draw Wolverine day! ect) or someone will come up with an idea and a few people will donate their artistry towards the cause. Because it's just comic nerds, there's a fair amount of creativity, like the ideas of 'What if Inspector Gadget was serious and epic?' or my favourite 'the marriage of Doom and Azula, and their daughter Cynthia.' Doomzula is now my OTP.
I like hanging out there because there is something to be said about anonymity. The artistic range varies from doodles in MSpaint to awesomely fast well done PS pieces. No one really cares for your talent or quality, just that you draw because everyone likes to see the ideas come to life. Some people tag themselves and have expectation/fame, but I like being able to pop in, doodle something and not feel obligated to ever follow up. I recently designed the summer home for the board, an underground city, and since my layout skills aren't awesome and I did the whole thing in 15 minutes it sucks and now I hate it, but no one else cares, they're just happy that there's a visual for their brainstorm, and the picture's been reposted a dozen times now.
I'm incredibly self-conscious about my art, but being able to post whatever, and having to draw quickly due to the nature of the threads, has improved me incredibly. I still don't think I'm good, but having no one really judging has helped me get bolder with my drawing and not fret as much over detail and anatomy and perspective and such things. By caring less, I'm doing more and getting better.
4chan: saving my art.
Also, I get a shitton free comics from the download links. The end of the world is happening in DC right now. It's a virus infecting everyone. And turning them into furries.
Yes, the final DC crisis is furries. We learned this Wednesday and I'm STILL laughing.

Voxdate: As a ghost.

Comic Rec:
I know I have very few comic readers on the flist, but as I'm getting more and more into them, I'm going to try and convert you, goddammit. And the highest recomendation would have to go to Batgirl: Year One. It's stelleriffic and just fucking awesome. It's fun to read and Babs is just one of the better characters to come out of DC and I'm not biased or nothing. She's just that cool. You don't need to know anything about Batman other than what the general public knows (he is the knight and his parents are dead).
Seriously. Batgirl. Go read it. Awesome.

Otherwise, there's about six billion pictures of that doe patronus popping up everywhere. Jesus shit.

ETA: I would've posted it yesterday, but the blackout caused me to seek entertainment of the computer and not update, but they're currently filming something just down from my studio and Michelle Trachtenberg (spelled right first time!) is in it. It's rather surreal.

Man, weird, weird day yesterday. I went to the Shoppe and bought a toy + Ugly Doll, talked to Bossman for about an hour about bringing in vinyl toys to the store, ordered some of said toys (AND Buffy season 8 comic, comes out today, oh em gees) and went home for some soup.
Now, I hate soup but I've been having trouble eating lately, so I wanted something... lightish. So this was veggie soup and I tried to make it nummier by adding garlic and hot peppers and some spices. Worked. The first it of the soup was just delish. In fact it was too much of a good thing. By the time I was done eating I never wanted to see that soup again. It it started out sooo gooooooood.
Anyway, went to work (boy fell in mud and thus was late) and started working and then just... stopped. I couldn't think anymore. It was like my brain exploded or something. Oaky, I can't explain it. but in any case, I decided it would be best to just go home, have a cup of tea and head to bed. So that's what I did!

And now it's pouring rain outside. I'm just gonna stay in and do some baking and tidying today, I think.

Runaways SAD EMOTICON
Does anyone else read this? I need someone to feel my pain :( :( :(
No? Dammit, I need more comic nerds on here.
This week's issue has made me lust for the v.1 HC, and there's only one copy to be found, and it's on eBay and I'm halfway through decided but OH GOD I WANT.
I'm trying to justify it though Tom buying a ton of shit offa eBay, but I think that's a bad decision.

Tom is making dinner! I believe he's burning the rice right now, but I won't say anything as to not be a naggy roommate. I have also bought Tama some delicious catnip and now she's royally passed out on the floor. Woobie.

I am SO CLOSE to buying fabric paint and blank shirts to make my own hawtsome clothing. But where finances don't hold me back, pure laziness does. I could look pretty or I could sleep. And considering the amount of caffine I've had today and I still feel like passing out on the floor next to my stoned cat, sleep looks like the option of the day.

Oh, looks like dinner's ready! Off to eat it!
